Case fatality ratios, or the number of infected persons who die from it, are a key indicator used to understand the severity and threat of a disease. However, both deliberate underreporting as well as limited testing can affect the accuracy of the data, affecting the quality of decisions based on these numbers. This paper by Verity et al., 2020, published in The Lancet provides a methodology to correct for these biases, and provides a validated CFR for China.
